Trentine Citizens

The Trentino-Alto Adige region became part of Italy only after the end of the First World War. It was previously part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Many Italian-speaking immigrants from that region migrated before the annexation of the region by Italy, therefore, their descendants do not have the right to Italian citizenship by descent.

Between 2000 and 2010, Trentine descendants were able to apply for citizenship with the Italian government, however many processes are still at a standstill.

If the ancestor originating from Trentino-Alto Adige was born after 1920, the procedure for recognizing Italian citizenship is the common one.
